Our Goal

Canada’s population is aging — and so are its drivers. At the Canadian Road Safety Innovation Foundation (CRSIF), we believe independence, confidence, and safety can coexist for every stage of life.

Our Senior & Vulnerable Road-User Safety pillar helps older adults and mobility-challenged individuals stay safely behind the wheel — and safely within their communities — through education, technology, and compassionate human connection. This initiative ensures that road safety is not only about preventing collisions but also about preserving dignity, mobility, and quality of life.

What We Do

Respectful Learning, Practical Tools

Delivered with certified instructors, health partners, and community hosts.

Senior Refresher Clinics

Friendly, non-judgmental sessions that update traffic rules, defensive techniques, and new vehicle tech — co-led by certified driving instructors and healthcare partners.

  • Optional on-road confidence checks
  • Cognitive & reaction-time awareness
  • Vision/mobility screening guidance
  • Insurance & licensing updates (Ontario)

Ask-Drivi for Seniors

AI-assisted companion that explains road rules, signage, and adaptive equipment in plain language — with voice or text Q&A and tailored practice quizzes.

  • Supports written-test preparation
  • Low-vision/hearing-friendly design
  • Reduces anxiety, builds confidence

Mobility & Confidence Sessions

Pedestrian and transit-readiness workshops with public-health and municipal partners — focused on safe mobility beyond the driver’s seat.

  • “Walk with Confidence” group workshops
  • Fall-prevention & sidewalk safety
  • Transit navigation & trip planning
  • Peer discussion circles
Why It Matters

Experience Deserves Safety — and Respect

  • Nearly one-third of serious collisions involve drivers over 65.
  • As health and reaction times change, continued education becomes a lifeline — not a burden.
  • Refresher learning and confidence tools help prevent license loss, reduce crash risk, and encourage safe alternatives.

This pillar aligns with Healthy Aging Ontario, the Public Health Agency of Canada injury-prevention priorities, and insurance industry wellness initiatives — connecting healthcare, transportation, and technology to protect Canada’s most experienced road users.
